Excert from the band press kit:
A top notch slice of grubby-jeans and t-shirt, blazing, guitar-pop, roots-rock from New Jersey. That's no put down. When it's done right, there's little better music played on this planet, and the MCP Band does it right. Started in 2001 with "Rock 'til you drop" attitude, singer-songwriter, Matt Coffy, who has warmed up for acts like Foghat, The Guess Who, Bob Weir among others, the Band has blazed new sonic journeys into the roots rock revival scene. This music is the kind of thing you'd expect to hear walking into a blue-collar bar for a Miller High Life on a Saturday night in a suburban town. The guitar solos are fluent, the riffs jangle, and the rhythm section rolls along like a strong shot of hooch. A fan once described them as ….. The Black Crows met John Cougar's "Scarecrow" while at a medicine show revival held by Warren Zevon and Dan Baird in outer space…." Filling out the rest of band, on Bass is John Pope who somehow arrived at playing with Matt now and again for over 20 years now. Jay Singer, whose guitar speaks several languages, majors in rousing a crowd with his insane tone and passionate playing. And the man who keeps the whole ship of fools together, Chuck Tumulty on the drums, beating the daylights out those eardrums if you get too close to him during a live set. Paul Rodriguez who joins this year on keyboards completes the lineup as a perfect fit for the high octane roadhouse rock team. The band has been playing in and around the NJ and NYC bar scene for the last five years. With a trail of steady gigs behind them, whether it is O’donahue’s in Hoboken or Kenny’s Castaway in NYC, the band continues to soldier on, winning over new music fans. Besides the 100 or so, varied classic cover songs the band has under there belt, they have become comfortable with playing entire sets of their own songs in front of audiences. With the debut of 2007 CD entitled “Above The Waterline”, you’re hearing the boys just like you would hear them on stage. The production was recorded basically live, its raw, practically unedited playing. It’s been well received by reviewers and fans alike. Recently, the title track on the CD, Particular Condition, has received attention over at GarageBand.com. Winning “Track on the Week” and maintaining a “Top 20” status in the Americana genre. With Great songwriting, the album is chock full of amped up melodies to get your arms flaring and your head bobbing. Their high spirited and unhinged live shows are an incredible blend of talent, guts and pure inspiration for those who dig the roots of Rock and Roll. The bands getting ready to party, so bring your friends, get out on the dance floor and they'll learn ya how to have a great time!
