The Hottest State (2006) is a film directed and written by Ethan Hawke, based on Hawke's 1997 novel The Hottest State: A Novel. The film debuted at the Venice Film Festival on September 2, 2006. The film was scheduled for a limited theater release in the United States on August 24, 2007. As of late October 2007, however, the release had been postponed indefinitely, and the film became available on DVD in December 2007.
