[edit] Construction of The Gyle
A new district shopping centre for West Edinburgh was proposed by a public enquiry in 1987. The findings created a document known as West Edinburgh inquiry in 1989, approved by the then Secretary of State for Scotland. The floorspace in the shopping centre, which was originally called Maybury Park, was later scaled down to 9,290 (100,000 sq f) to protect nearby retail areas such as Wester Hailes and Corstophine. [1] Work began on The Gyle in 1991 for completition in late 1993. A food court was later added in early 1994 by the Catering Development.[2]
[edit] Current Stores
The Gyle has many stores including: WHSmith, Next, Zavvii, The Disney Store, Boots, Early Learning Centre and Bank of Scotland Halifax. The food court has recently been refurbished containing five outlets, [3] including a Burger King restaurant.[4]
