The Great Betrayal: The Memoirs of Ian Douglas Smith is a 1997 autobiography written by Ian Smith covering his time as Premier of the British Crown Colony of Southern Rhodesia and Prime Minister of Rhodesia (April 13, 1964 - June 1, 1979). The memoirs cover the time period during which Smith's government attempted to preserve white minority rule in Rhodesia via political and military means, including a Unilateral Declaration of Independence from the United Kingdom, and the termination of Smith's government with the resumption of British rule and the independence of Zimbabwe in 1980.
