The Diplomats of Solid Sound is a Soul group from Iowa City, IA that performs music in the spirit of Booker T and the MGs, The Bar-Kays and The Ventures. The current members of the band are Doug Roberson on guitar, Nate Basinger on Hammond Organ, Jim Viner on drums and percussion, David Basinger on baritone sax, and Eddie McKinley on tenor sax.
In July of 2006 the Diplomats added dedicated vocalists to the mix in the form of the Diplomettes. The Diplomettes are Sarah Cram, Kathy Ruestow, and Abbie Sawyer. In 2007 the Diplomats with the Diplomettes worked on an album released in April 2008 titled The Diplomats of Solid Sound Featuring The Diplomettes on Italian Funk/Soul/Groove label Record Kicks.
