[edit] History

The Blue Buffalo made its first appearance in Episode 4 of Android Kikaida[1]. The Buffalo began his reign of terror killing a dockworker and capturing Yukiko. He uses her as bait for a trap to destroy Kikaida. After being aided by Hanpei, Kikaida escapes the trap and engages in battle with the Blue Buffalo. After going through his fiercest and most brutal battle Kikaida finally defeats the Blue Buffalo. The Buffalo's primary weapon was the Buffalo Missile. The Blue Buffalo weighed in at 105 kg and its height was 198 cm.[2]

After being destroyed by Kikaida, Blue Buffalo was restored to test the strength of the Silver Tortoise. Alongside the Gray Rhino King, Green Mantis, Orange Ant, Yellow Jaguar, Black Horse, Blues Kong, Carmine Spider, Red Condor, Scorpion Brown, Gold Wolf, Silver Cat, and Pink Tiger they all fight the Silver Tortoise. Blue Buffalo was again defeated, then destroyed by the Silver Tortoise along with the other android monsters.[3]

Due to the popularity of the Blue Buffalo, the character made another appearance in the Kikaida Movie.

[edit] Influence on Viewers

In 1973 the Punahou schools of Honolulu, Hawaii named their sports teams the Buffanblu. In honor of Kikaida's Fiercest opponent.[4]

[edit] Running of The Blue Buffalo

The annual Running of the Blue Buffalo began, an event in which an election is held within the student body and the winner gets to dress up as the Blue Buffalo and chase the alumni in the running of the Buffalo.[5]

[edit] Near Cancellation

During the annual running senior Jason Endo-Chun, was run over accidentally by the elected blue Buffalo, the All-State defensive end Laiafi Faletose-Matautia. Jason Endo-Chun suffered a open fracture of his left tibia, and the school was forced to deem the event too dangerous, after many parents complained about seeing the fracture first-hand. Once Jason heard the news when he returned to school, led the charge to save the Running of the Buffalo, various petitions and negotiations were met and rallied the student body to save the event. He was recognized during graduation and was awarded a plaque for his brave and couragious acts.

The plaque still hangs today in the Hall of Champions at Punahou. [6]
