The Crippled Eagles

The Crippled Eagles was an American expatriate unit that fought with the Rhodesian Light Infantry during the Rhodesian Bush War. Numbering approximately 300 men the unit suffered five combat fatalities during the course of its existence:
- Corporal John Coey, whose journal would be published posthumously
- Trooper Frank Battaglia
- Trooper Joseph Patrick Byrne
- Trooper Stephen M. Dwyer
- Sergeant Hugh P. McCall
The "crippled eagle" moniker and badge was meant to symbolize their abandonment by the the US government.
