The Champion’s Centre Inc. is a not for profit Christian charity organization that provides permanent low-income housing to the disadvantaged and homeless. The Champion’s Centre offers room and board to between 12-18 tenants with basic amenities, while also operating a café and antique shop at the same location. The café and antique shop generate a source of income for the centre apart from donations and fund-raising. The goal of The Champion’s Centre is to encourage people who struggle to live independently to reintegrate back into society primarily by providing a setting where tenants can experience a meaningful sense of community affiliation. The Champion’s Centre was originally conceived of as supportive housing by minister Klaas Klooster who also serves as the Executive Director of the organization. The first centre was founded in the town of Ponoka, Alberta, Canada and opened in June 2002. A second Champion’s Centre opened in the city of Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada in June 2006 and a third centre in Medicine Hat is now under construction. Though the centre is a Christian charity it is run inter-denominationally.
