The Center for Northern Studies

The Center for Northern Studies (CNS) in Wolcott in the U.S. state of Vermont is an interdisciplinary environmental study center which is part of Sterling College in Craftsbury Common, Vermont. The Center supports the study of the cultures and environments of the Circumpolar North, including the peoples of Arctic Canada, Siberia, Alaska, and Scandinavia. The organization was founded in 1971, and in 2003 merged with Sterling College. The Center facilities include classrooms, computer workstations, a specialized Arctic research library, and a 300-acre boreal wetland.
The Center also offers field study courses in its adjacent boreal forest, as well as Canada, Central Asia, Japan, Iceland, and Scandinavia. Courses range from field biology to cultural anthropology and archeology of circumpolar cultures.
