The Birdie Song is a British instrumental novelty tune by The Tweets which reached number two in the singles chart in October 1981 [1][2].
The song is a version of Werner Thomas' 1950s Swiss accordion oom-pah song, The Chicken Dance, adapted (per some accounts) by Mike Rae, an Aberdeen based bass player. Although it topped the charts in the 1980s, the tune has in more recently been voted as "the most annoying song of all time" in a poll commissioned for the website dotmusic.[2]
