The "American School" of Basketball
The American school of basketball is the a term that can generally be used to describe the "style" of play used in the National Basketball Association in contrast to styles generally played internationally. In short The "American School" involves more emphasis on post play and "inside-out scoring". In it's traditional form American style basketball is grounded in a half court system which has the 1 guard (point guard) bringing the ball up court with the 4 (power forward) or 5 (Center) or sometimes both playing near the basket. 2's (Shooting Guards) and 3's (Small Forwards) are used differently depending on the scheme.
