"The Air That I Breathe" is a song written by Albert Hammond and Mike Hazelwood, initially recorded by Phil Everly of the famed Everly Brothers.

It is best remembered as having been a major hit for The Hollies in 1974, reaching No. 2 in the UK - their last major hit single, apart from a reissue of "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother" in 1988 - and No. 6 in the US. "The Air That I Breathe" was engineered by Alan Parsons.

This song is currently featured in a commercial for Advance Auto Parts.

I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry, a 2007 film starring Adam Sandler and Kevin James, features the Hollies' version of the song when Sandler and James are first introduced to their extremely attractive lawyer Alex, played by Jessica Biel.

The May 2003 series finale of WB's teen drama Dawson's Creek, features the Hollies' version of the song when Dawson (James Van Der Beek) and Pacey (Joshua Jackson) are brought together one last time by handwritten wish of Joey (Katie Holmes), as they realize that their competing affections for Joey have forever destroyed their friendship.

The song appears in the season 2 episode "Donut Run" of Veronica Mars, when Veronica is mourning the end of her relationship with Logan.

This song is also played on the 1999 film, The Virgin Suicides.
