The ABC Friday Night Movie
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The ABC Friday Night Movie is a television program that aired on Friday nights from 1975 to 1983 (and again, briefly, in 1999) on ABC. The program presented theatrical feature films as well as made-for-TV movies. The feature films were edited (1) for content, to remove objectionable material, and (2) for resizing, so the image would fit the standard 4:3 television screen (as opposed to letterbox format). The editing for language, naturally, caused a reduction in the running time of some films, but the two-hour time slot was occasionally lengthened to accommodate longer ones (i.e. longer films might end at 11:30 P.M., E.S.T., rather than 11:00 P.M.).
From 1964 to 1988 ABC ran a movie series on Sunday nights, under the title The ABC Sunday Night Movie.
