The following sentence needs attention:

Thereafter, he took little part in imperial affairs, preferring not to intervene between Henry IV and his son Henry, or against Lothair of Supplinburg, duke of Saxony, who was his son's wife's brother.

Specifically, the last phrase "his son's wife's brother could be worded differently because the pronoun "his" is ambiguous. In this case, the author is referring to Thierry's son's wife's brother.

To make matters worse, it is not clear that Thierry's son (Simon) wife (Adelaide) is the brother of Lothair.

A reliable source (link provided below) shows that Thierry's son's wife had parentage, which is not the same as Lothair's. In other words, Adelaide is probably not the sister of Lothair.

I am going to delete the phrase, "who was his son's wife's brother"
