The correct English song title seems to be "Peanut Vendor" without the article "The". This is the title used in the sheet music and in WHO WROTE THAT SONG. ~~paramucho~~

El Manicero (traduction : le vendeur de cacahuères, titre en anglais : The Peanut Vendor) est une chanson (genre : son-pregon) composée en 1928 par le cubain Moisés Simons.

MACHÍN popularise le fameux pregón "El Manisero" de Moisés SIMÓNS.

En 1930 "Don AZAPIAZU's et se rend avec son orchestre aux Etats-Unis. Il emmène le chanteur Antonio MACHÍN. Sur le bateau se trouve également le saxophoniste Mario BAUZÁ. Le "Don AZPIAZU's ORCHESTRA" joue au Palace Theater sur Broadway à New York et obtient un immense succès en diffusant la musique traditionnelle cubaine et ses thèmes les plus connus, "Ay mama Iñes", "Amor sincero" et une toute récente composition de SIMÓNS que la voix de Antonio MACHÍN va propager à travers tout le pays, le pregón "El Manisero". Le public new-yorkais est enthousiasmé par l'orchestre et ses percussions cubaines : maracas, güiro, claves, timbales, congas et bongó.

La RCA Victor entraîne immédiatement l'orchestre vers ses studios.

Don AZPIAZU's ORCHESTRA" joue dans plusieurs villes américainesIl devient commercialement nécessaire de traduire en anglais les paroles des différents thèmes et en premier lieu celles du pregón "El Manisero", ce que fait avec succès Marion Sunshine. Le thème sera désormais plus connu sous son titre anglais "The Peanut vendor".

A Paris, à la fin de l'année, ce sont les clubs La Plantation sur les Champs Elysées, le Théâtre de l'Empire qui les accueillent. Les chanteurs José "Chepín" PEREIRA et José "Chiquito" SOCARRÁS sont les voix de l'orchestre qui parvient à enregistrer plusieurs titres dans la capitale française. The song was popular in Cuba for several years when Herbert Marks, son of sheet music publisher E.B. Marks, heard it and convinced his father to release it with English lyrics by Louis Rittenberg. Cuban band leader Don Azpiazu then recorded it with different lyrics written by his sister-in-law, Marion Sunshine, and Wolfe Gilbert. When Azpiazu debuted his band in New York in 1931, the song and the Latin sound were wildly successful novelties to American audiences. Azpiazu's recording sold over one million copies in under two years, easily making it one of the top sellers of the decade. Hollywood jumped on the bandwagon and put out one of the earliest musicals, "Cuban Love Song," featuring a rendition by that authentic Latin interpreter, the opera singer Lawrence Tibbett. The success of "Peanut Vendor" led a wave of Latin music into America. Within a year of its publication, E.B. Marks listed over 600 Latin songs, and Latin bands were prominently featured in films, radio, and live performances.
