Talk:The Making of the English Working Class
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Important, as we flesh out, to capture Thompson's emphasis on a working class, not classes, a point emphasised at length early in the book - eg in the Preface, 'in the years between 1780 and 1832 most English working people came to feel an identity of interests as between themselves, and as against their rulers and employers.'
Class-consciousness, inevitably largely influenced by Marx, is at the core of the work. Linuxlad 23:14, 24 Jan 2005 (UTC)
I think you're entirely right- I think I was just over-emphasising the plurality of things by saying classes rather than class. I'll change it... I think a quick glance at the title would have told me something, eh? Vanky 11:13, 25 Jan 2005 (UTC)
