[edit] Possible inspiration?

I wonder if Harry Paget Flashman was an inspiration for Captain Tylor? They both join the military as a way of shirking responsibility and figuring that it'd be the safest place to be. They also both recieve high honors and awards even though they've royally screwed up and had no clue what was going on as they tried to save their own skins.

[edit] ============================

No, Flashman was a cad! Tylor was more of an incredibly lucky idiot - bit like Maxwell Smart mixed with the casualness of Huckleberry Finn.

Anyone going to compose an article on the spaceship? 157.128.148.150 00:41, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

  • Actually, Tylor seems inspired as a parody of Yang Wenli from Legend of Galactic Heroes. They do somewhat physically resemble each other. Yang joined the military just to get an education hoping he could just be a history professor but his historical knowledge of military strategy unwittingly won a space battle and saved his CO's butt. Yang is promoted and the rest is history.Mr. ATOZ 15:56, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Nationalism or Parody?

The flag of the United Planets is heavily influenced by the Japanese flag, save for the Green starburst on the upper right-hand corner of the Hinomaru (Rising Sun). Also, the character of Lt. Yamamoto may be related to Japanese Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto. Could this be seen as Japanese Nationalism or parody in the same vein as Earth in Futurama? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.33.138.165 (talk) 06:35, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
