This episode is a metaphor for the treatment of American veterans of the Vietnam war upon their return, which was still a point of contention in American culture in 1990. Picard's line of "They were your brothers, your sons, and you turned your backs on them" was reminiscent of the line from the 1972 song popular among some Vietnam veterans (including Senators Bob Kerrey and John Kerry): "And The Band Played Waltzing Matilda/as they carried us down the gangway/but nobody cheered/they just stood there and stared/and then they turned all their faces away."

Danar and Khan Noonien Singh seem to be fairly similar to one another. Both were genetically engineered and both ended up usurping the government that created them. The only real difference between the two, I suppose, is the fact their stated goals. TerraFrost 19:29, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
