Either the English translation (made from the French translation of the original Albanian) is exceptionally crappy, or the person who wrote this article was drunk when s/he read the book.

According to my translation, both scholars are Irish, they have moved to America, though.

Moreover, the scholars are not recording or studying variations of HOMER. They are studying variations of Albanian epics sung by the wandering poets. They do this in order to make guesses about Homer and his culture/art. And "regional bias" isn't the point at all.

The trite but official sounding "The story is a metaphor for..." bit should be deep-sixed as well.

I haven't addressed all these issues, only some of them. Anyone who remembers and wants to can make the change about Irish/American background. Andrew Dalby 19:58, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
