[edit] In Hockey
The double in hockey is to win both the olympic gold and the world championhip in the same year. Sweden did this in 2006.
Looks like it's time to split this article. I suggest having The Double (football) and a disambiguation page for the rest of it. What does everyone else think? Image:Yemen flag large.png CTOAGN (talk) 15:33, 15 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Contradiction
- I would correct this, but I can't be arsed:
"A unique double was also achieved by Arsenal in 1993 when they won both the FA Cup and the League Cup in the same season.... The feat of winning both the FA Cup and League Cup in the same season was also achieved by Liverpool in 2001"
[edit] Split article
- I moved the section on other sports to The Double (Other). The Double is notable enough in the world of football to warrant its own article, free from the mention of other sports. Kronix1986 02:48, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] The Double = the English league + FA Cup
I removed references to "near doubles" featuring the League Cup (aka the Carling/Worthington/Coca-Cola Cup). The English Double is the league and the FA Cup. The League Cup doesn't come into the equation. Kronix1986 02:55, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Quadruple?
"...thus far no-one has ever achieved the elusive Quadruple: The League, FA Cup, League Cup and European Cup, though Chelsea came remarkably close in 2007."
Except for Celtic in '67. It's not the English Quadruple, but it's the only Quadruple in history. --Cheezymadman 05:06, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Delete this paragraph?
"Arsenal and Manchester United share the record of three double wins each. Arsenal are the only club to win a double in more than one decade (1970s, 1990s and 2000s). United's three doubles in the 1990s does nothing more than show their domination of English football at that time. However, by doing such, United proved superiority in term of playing at a high level for an extended period of time and also the ability to win with a same core of players which is an exemplary reflection on Sir Alex Ferguson's coaching. Arsenal's three doubles come in three different periods of football (1970s, 1990s, and 2000s) in which the style of football and the core of the team are all different. Trend analysis speaking, these incidents proved that the particular Arsenal teams was good for that particular year, hence they are all singular incidents without implication of dominance." - Just seems like a lot of editing has been done by opposing fans to get digs in one each other's teams. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.147.69.247 (talk) 23:11, 22 April 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Delete this paragraph? "near european doubles?"
This potentially gives a very long list including every team that has won the european cup but not won their domestic league in the same season Every Champions League runner up that either finshed 1st or second.
IMHO this would be a very long and not very illuminating list. I'm going to delete the paragraph as it stands but if somebody is feeling ultra keen..... (Statto999 (talk) 00:19, 22 May 2008 (UTC))
[edit] American Doubles?
Did someone delete the paragragh refering to D.C. United winning the American Double (MLS Cup and U.S. Open Cup) in 1996? That is sigificant as that is the first U.S. club to do so. 70.240.109.225 (talk) 18:39, 31 May 2008 (UTC)
wouldn't use 'MLS' and 'significant' in the same sentence, but it is notable so please add this under domestic cup doubleJw2034 (talk) 23:01, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
LOL well what can you do it is MLS but still good. However, it should fall under Other Countries not Domestic Cup Doubles, as the MLS Cup is the league championship and the U.S. Open is the domestic cup. Also, Chicago Fire did the same in 1998, I will try to fix it if you feel that the paragraph belongs under Other Countries. Also, I want to get some consesus on another club. UNAM Pumas of the Mexican League won the Clausura 2004 and Apertura 2004 championships. Mexico splits their seasons into two tournamets, and follows the FIFA calendar. This would not be a season double, but I think this would be considered a calendar year double no? 70.240.100.24 (talk) 06:37, 2 June 2008 (UTC)
