In the 2004 video game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas a radio DJ states that he used to be in a band called Crystal Ship. This is most likely a reference to the song.
In the 1980s, there was a Doors tribute band called "Crystal Ship". The band was very popular in the NYC tri-state area. This could relate to the GTA reference.

[edit] Drug Reference?
I asked several people and they agreed, unfortunately i have no sources to back up my claim. 'crystal ship' refers to an addiction. This becomes more apparent if you listen to the song 'Crystal Ship' by 'renegade masters', but that is besides the point. It goes like that: To leave the shore and to jump on the 'crystal ship', as you leave your life behind and surrender yourself to the addiction, and leave everything else behind. While one says 'jump off the boat before it's too late' refers to ending whatever habit you might have. While i found some references in the song to possible drug use ("Before you slip into unconsciousness", the reference to bliss, the love and the pain from discovering the novel pleasure of opiates) i can't find any other place to back up this theory.
