- Description: A screenshot from HBO drama The Wire showing a real Baltimore location displaying graffiti of a colloquialism used to describe the city because of its high murder rate.
[edit] Fair use for The Wire (TV series)
This image, TheWire07.jpg, is being linked here; though the picture is subject to copyright I (Opark 77) feel it is covered by the U.S. fair use laws because:
- it is a promotional screenshot from a television series;
- it does not limit the copyright owner's rights to sell the DVD of the show in any way;
- copies could not be used to make illegal copies of the program because it is low resolution;
- the image is accompanied by a description of the slang phrase pictured and critical commentary about the role of this sort of device on the show.
- the image is significant because it identifies a real-life Baltimore location and graffitti illustrating a commonly used play on words (though the graffiti has since been painted over [1], hence new free images of it cannot be made).
[edit] Licensing
This image is a screenshot of a copyrighted television program or station ID. As such, the copyright for it is most likely owned by the company or corporation that produced it. It is believed that the use of a limited number of web-resolution screenshots
qualifies as fair use under United States copyright law. Any other uses of this image, on Wikipedia or elsewhere, might be copyright infringement. For more information, see Wikipedia:Non-free content. |
