Ashanti: The Making of a Star is Ashanti's first DVD/video release. The DVD was released on December 14, 2004 for a limited time after the release of her third studio album, Concrete Rose released on the same day. The compilation included a thirty-minute documentary on the singer, with interviews, photoshoots, and home videos. The DVD also included the videos for the billboard hits "Foolish", "Happy", "Rain on Me", and "Only U".
On June 21, 2005, a second version of the DVD with alternative music videos was released as a Walmart exclusive. It was paired with the film Coach Carter, in which Ashanti starred as a pregnant teenager called Kyra.
