Thilo Rehren

Mineralogist (1984 Diplom in Economic Geology with minor in Non-Ferrous Metallurgy from TU Clausthal) and petrologist (1988 PhD thesis on magma development on the island of Nisyros in the Aegean). 1989 six months postdoc at the Department of Materials, Oxford University with Dr Peter Northover, kindly funded by the Volkswagen-Foundation. 1990 to 1999 Research Scientist at the Deutsches Bergbau-Museum Bochum, the first three years again with funding from the VW-Foundation: many thanks to the Foundation, and to Herrn Dege in particular! Habilitation 1997 in Material Sciences (Archaeometallurgy) at the TU Bergakademie Freiberg. Since 1999 at the UCL Institute of Archaeology in London (more...). My main interest is in the production of artificial high-temperature materials (sorry, that's metal and glass) throughout archaeology. Hobbies: Sleeping, cooking, table tennis, thermal baths (in any sequence).
