[edit] Act of Accession

This bit repeats a misconception about Texas. The Constitution allows ANY state to subdivide under certain circumstances. Indeed, the act of accession states that subdivision shall comply with the requirements of the constitution. Perhaps the only difference between Texas and other states is that Texas is limited to five subdivisions whereas there is no such limitation on other states. Acsenray 16:03, 6 January 2006 (UTC)

Article IV, Section 3 "New States may be admitted by the Congress into this Union; but no new States shall be formed or erected within the Jurisdiction of any other State; nor any State be formed by the Junction of two or more States, or parts of States, without the Consent of the Legislatures of the States concerned as well as of the Congress." Implication being that with the consent of the Legislatures of the States concerned as well as Congress these new States may be formed. I suppose the difference is that in the case of Texas, Congressional consent has already been granted (for up to five) so would require only the consent of the Texas legislature. In the current revision it is stated that the southern boundary of Swisher County is regarded as the southern boundary of the region. While I have no doubt that this is true, why would Swisher County be singled out, as the five other counties have the same southern boundary as far as I can see? There is a missing county/city. Lubbock is a a big part of The Texan Panhandle. It is a county for several cities and has 2 colleges in its county. It should either be emmited as a county or city.
