[edit] Terrence Masson
Terrence Masson has been described by SHOTS Magazine (Issue #49, November 1998) as “One of the worlds most versatile computer graphics practitioners”.
Terrence has served the National Institute for Standards and Technology as an expert consultant for digital video graphics, as well as served on numerous advisory boards around the world. For 20 years Terrence has served the computer graphics production community as a visual effects supervisor, animation producer, lecturer, author, and consultant. His invitations have come from institutions as varied as the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Dreamworks Feature Animation, Purdue University, the Directors Guild of American, University of California at Berkeley, ASIFA, and the World Animation Celebration, to name just a few.
As SIGGRAPH Computer Animation Festival Chair in 2006 he and his team were lauded for taking that festival to a dramatic new level of excellence and fun. Shown for one week only in Boston the festival included the “The World Largest Digital Etch-A-Sketch” audience participation pre-show developed in partnership with Cinematrix. He is currently serving as Conference Chair for SIGGRAPH 2010.
Terrence is author of the popular industry standard book CG 101: A Computer Graphics Industry Reference, just published as an updated 2007 2nd Edition by Digital Fauxtography.
As a very early adopter of the Web for animation and visual effects educational use Terrence co-founded (with producer Bob O’Haver) “The Visual Effects Resource Center” at www.visualfx.com in 1994. The site was eventually purchased by Creative Planet and later expanded into www.VFXWorld.com.
Trivia
Terrence single handedly created the original computer graphics animation technique for the television show South Park, and is notable for being the namesake for half of the on-screen “Terrence and Philip” duo.
