Terrorism in the Philippines in the modern era are chiefly conducted by militant Islamic groups. The most active terrorist organizations in the Philippines are Abu Sayyaf and Jemaah Islamiyah.

  • December 30, series of bombings that occurred around Metro Manila. The explosions happened in close succession within the span of a few hours. There were twenty two reported fatalities and around hundred more suffered non-fatal injuries.

  • October 10 and 11, a series of three bombings and one attempted bombing in Central Mindanao. Eight people were killed and between 30 and 46 were injured.

  • July 10-11, Islamic militants, Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) rebels, 14 killed members of the Philippine Marines, beheading 10 of them, on the Philippine island-province of Basilan.
  • November 13, a part of the Philippine Batasang Pambansa (National Assembly) south wing, which houses the House of Representatives, exploded due to a car bomb.
