Tera Melos is an American band from that incorporates jazz, ambient electronics, prog-like song structure, and hardcore punk all in one to create their original type of the math-rock genre. They are currently a three-piece (formerly four), consisting of guitar, bass and drums. In early 2007, Tera Melos went on tour with The Fall of Troy, Portugal. The Man, and Damiera. They plan to tour the western United States with Finch in January to February 2008, and will perform at the South By Southwest festival in March. [1]

Tera Melos play a brand of music characterized by shifting odd time signatures, start-stop dynamics, spaz-outs, intricate rapid-fire tapping on the guitar, harshly dissonant riffs and numerous effects. Their style is heavily influenced by jazz, post-hardcore and electronic music, and has elements of noise, post-rock and ambient music. After releasing a four song demo, they released their self-titled debut full-length on October 4th, 2005. The album was comprised of eight songs, and it has been re-issued in 2008 on Sargent House. While some of the tracks on it feature distorted vocals that are somewhat undecipherable, guitarist Nick Reinhart started contributing more prominent vocals to the music with the release of their 2007 split with By the End of Tonight, called Complex Full of Phantoms.

Right before they started recording their second EP Drugs to the Dear Youth, one of the guitarists, Jeff Worms, left the band. On January 19th, 2007, Tera Melos released the LP on Sargent House. ‘Drugs’ for short, was a step away from the sort of post-hardcore sound they had before and farther into more progressive and math-rock regions.

Tera Melos have over the past few years, developed a cult-like fan base around the United States and have recently gained some popularity in Japan, United Kingdom, and various other European countries.

Tera Melos announced on their myspace on April 2nd that drummer Vince would be leaving the band shortly after the tour with The Fall of Troy, The Dear Hunter and Foxy Shazam to pursue other things. The band currently still have a new album on the horizon and will be searching for a new drummer after Vince's departure.
