The rise of relativism and post-modernism in the social sciences has severely degraded the judgemental and decision-making abilities people need to get ahead in life. E.G. There's no need to "preach the controversy" (Shorto, 50) about Intelligent Design (or creationism, whatever you want to call it) in a science classroom. Its mention is not even necessary, but if it must be done then what is there to say other than "some people believe life was created by a higher being." It is not a complex theory, and certainly not a scientific one. If anything, the debate is political in nature, and the exact start of life belongs to the annals of science, not science itself unless that theory still holds true today. If ID/creationists are to be believed, then their arguments should not be presented in a scientific classroom. Public education should not be guided by the will of the people. Most people are poorly educated, poor thinkers, and too caught up in their own problems. As sports, economics, and biology suggest, most people are followers and don't think. Easily observable data is the rhetoric people use to talk about the current political standpoint in the United States. Instead of researching policies and gaining an historical perspective, they absorb information from common media sources and then exhale that same information in a form that is practically identical to its earlier, predigestive state. THINK PEOPLE, THINK. What's important is often left unsaid.
