The station has 2 levels. The 1st level is used for the Kintetsu Line while the second level is used for JR lines.

The JR arrival-departure area is an island-shaped, and has 2 platforms and 4 lines.
[edit] Kintetsu Line
There are 3 lines, with 3 platforms. Since it is the terminal, there is no specification to which line is used for what purposes. However, express trains for Kyoto often leaves from line 3.
There are several bus lines by Nara Kotsu departing from the main entrance.

- 1898 The station opens as Tanbaichi Station of Nara Railways
- 1905 The station becomes the part of Kansai Railway
- 1907 Becomes part of JNR
- 1915 Tenri Narrow Railway expands to Tenri
- 1921 Tenri Narrow Railway merges with Osaka Electric Rail (Former body of Kintetsu)
- 1941 OER and Sankyu Express Railway merges
- 1944 Kankyu Tenri station becomes Kintetsu Tenri Station
- 1963 JNR-Tanbaichi Station becomes Tenrishi Station
- 1965 The Sakurai Line is elevated, and both stations merges into one
- 1987 JNR becomes JR West
- 2007 Kintetsu Tenri starts using PiTaPa
