The Tendō clan (天童氏 Tendō-shi?) was a family line established by Shiba Kaneyori, later occupying the province of Dewa up until the latter Sengoku Period of Feudal Japan. Within the late years of the 16th century, the Tendo had consistently clashed against their rivaling enemy, the Date, and eventually resolved to ally with the latter for the sake of destroying another influence that proved of great difficulty to contend against: the Mogami. By the year of 1584, Mogami Yoshiaki initially led a large frontal assault upon the Tendo's territory; but as the retainers of the Tendo were either overwhelmed or possessed a dislike towards their present clan and wished for life under a new sword, they betrayed their lord and defected to the Mogami, resulting in a decisive defeat. Fortunately for the present head of Tendo, Yorihisa, he was able to personally escape the desolation of his family, later becoming retainer to Date Masamune in order to cement the safety of his life and any existing clansmen.
