[edit] First black MAN to win a Grand Slam

It is mentioned - under Did you know... - that Noah is the second black after Ashe to win a GS. This must be in men's singles, right? Could someone please confirm/correct?--HJ 21:09, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Informal Peer Review

Hey people. I was just browsing around when I found this portal. As it is, it's a decent portal with alot of recent activity. I have some suggestions on improving the portal:

  1. News section: News captions should be short and concise, with the following format: Date published: News (Source)
  2. Selected articles, biographies, and pictures should have a wiki-link to the subject in its opening sentence
  3. DYK section: Did you knows... should be short and concise
  4. Given the amount of quotes from tennis related media, the portal should feature a rotating template so that each time the page is accessed a new quote is shown, instead of the current multi-list format
  5. Tournament results should be reported separately from the News section, perhaps even getting their own caption box on the page.
  6. Since the portal already features a multi-tab-page system, suggest adding two additional sub-pages: (1) for tournaments and (2) for gameplay.
    1. A Tournaments sub-page could include a recent tournament results caption box, an article caption for each grand slam, and a list of all current tennis tournaments in chronological order.
    2. For gameplay, different article and picture caption box for tennis shots, terminologies, and sporting equipment.

These are just suggestions which could, not necessarily should, be incorporated. Given the amount of information, this could easily be a featured portal given a little time and work. Any additions or retractions are welcome. - Mtmelendez (Talk|UB|Home) 01:13, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

#2 has been corrected for this month, and I'll remember to do it from now on. The #3, DYKs will be short and concise, resembling those on the main page, although obviously no limit on the freshness of the articles. I'll take note of the rotation of quotes; it's an interesting idea although I am not yet sure how will it work. As for the additional subpages, two more pages will overcrowd the portal, so it may be a better idea to combine gameplay and tournaments together. --DarkFalls talk 09:58, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
I know of a template that can help randomize the quotes, and you're right: perhaps a page that combines gameplay and tournaments seems fine. - Mtmelendez (Talk|UB|Home) 11:09, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Is anyone here?

I just came to this page and noticed that no one had updated the In the news... section since before the US Open. As such, I added the final results and the results of the WTA Tour Championships to the section. This leads me to wonder if anyone actually does anything with this portal or if it just sits here. --tennisman 16:41, 16 November 2007 (UTC)
