Talk:Temporary Autonomous Zone
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I would like to see this article elaborated on, as I'm new to the concept... Maybe some of Bey's detractors? Critiques? I've come accross this author and his concepts through various channels, so it much have caught on at least decently and any idea that catches on has detractors and critics, right?
The article at present is actually about one section of the book T.A.Z.; should it be expanded to include the whole book? Шизомби 03:49, 8 March 2006 (UTC)
Critique: He's idolizing Berber pirates, who were brutal, slave trading and sexually abusing, pirating jihadi islamists, and arguing that they crime syndicates they controlled represent "freedom." Bullshit. Better to read some Hayek or Friedman (either!)
- Although the pirate-as-anarchist analysis isn't perfect, it's not all bad. Pirates are a very diverse group, and any over-generalization of pirates, good or bad, is bound to have problems. Some pirtates raided slaving ships to free the people on board, and many of the former slaves became pirates themselves. The Ungovernable Force 01:35, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Use as Protest
There should be a section regarding TAZ as a form of protest and it's use in the rave culture. See Here
The point isn't that they were moral. Bey's not asserting that what the Pirate Autonomies did followed any moral or ethical code. In fact the TAZ has little to do with morals and ethics. The exact moral and ethical codes you see being violated is what Bey would ask you to release your self in the bit about Psychotopology. You aren't free in your own head if you follow society's definition of morals and ethics (or God's etc...). I agree it's very abstract, but definitely interesting.
[edit] Burning Man
I think there is far too much information (irrelevant information, that is) about Burning Man in this article. A brief mention of Burning Man as an example of a T.A.Z. is fine, but we do not need all this extra detail about "BMorg" and its supposed treatment of its employees. Thoughts? ---RepublicanJacobiteThe'FortyFive' 15:42, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
- I think it's fine. It's being presented many other places as well as this article as being somewhat of a TAZ, but that may not be a good example - those extra details you are complaining about are the counterpoint. And it's not like the article is huge and bloated anyway. --Gwern (contribs) 05:03 9 February 2008 (GMT)
