Telus Plaza
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Telus Plaza is an office complex in Edmonton, Canada that was completed in 1972 (as the Alberta Government Telephones (AGT) buildings). The twin buildings are Telus Plaza North and Telus Plaza South. The namesake tenant is the Telus corporation.
Telus Plaza South, at a cost of C$22 million, stood as Edmonton's tallest building until Manulife Place was completed in 1981. It is 134 meters (34 storeys) tall.
Telus Plaza North is 90 meters tall (20 storeys, 296 feet) and was completed in 1969. It contains retail space at the ground level and via Edmonton Pedway system to the Edmonton LRT.
Since 2000, the complex has undergone significant refurbishment to the lower retail levels improving the tenant facilities. However the office space in both towers is still sub-standard and woefully out of date in both spacial planning, environmental systems and employee ergonomics.[neutrality disputed]
Prior to the construction of the AGT buildings this site was the home of the main branch of the Edmonton Public Library which stood there from 1923 to 1969.
