Teen Witch is a film that was released in 1989. It was originally pitched as a sequel/spin-off of the 1985 movie Teen Wolf, although it later was re-worked and turned into a film of its own. The movie is a fantasy/musical blend with the elements of a fantasy being the "witch" but the characters in this movie burst out into song twice leading fans to believe this movie was originally intended to be a musical. The soundtrack consists of mainly dance music, but the film score is jazz.

[edit] Plot

Louise Miller, on her 16th birthday, discovers she is actually a witch and begins developing magical powers. Her magical powers come from a strange and mysterious necklace that her favorite drama teacher found among the costumes. At first, she uses her powers to make her friends and family happy (or, in her little brother's case, unhappy). Later, she uses these powers to make the most popular boy in school fall in love with her and to transform herself from a bookworm nerd into a sexy popular girl, much to the dismay of her geeky yet adorable former best friend and mildly concerned yuppie parents.

[edit] Notes

  • Filmed at Herbert Hoover High School in Glendale, California
  • Before the release, a sequel was planned, but it was eventually dropped because of money issues and plot holes.
  • Released onto VHS on November 9, 1989
  • Released onto DVD on July 12, 2005
  • The film was originally intended to be a PG rated film but received a PG-13 rating. Due to the PG-13 rating the movie was saddled with, the box office response was somewhat disappointing. However, the film became a cult classic and eventually earned more than the budget back.[citation needed]
  • Teen Witch: The Musical went into production in 2006 and is released a soundtrack on February 13, 2007 and will start showing in summer of 2007.[citation needed]
