Techofes, is an annual inter-collegiate cultural event organized by the Students Union of College of Engineering, Guindy. Held usually during the second week of February, it is often considered a must go for cultural enthusiasts in Chennai.
Techofes is especially well known for its song and dance competitions which invariably are graced by stars from the Tamil film industry and South Indian cinema in general. The Techofes fashion shows have participants from as far off as Delhi.
Techofes also boasts of numerous events such as Quiz, Dumb Charades, JAM and literary activities. Growing larger every year, in 2003, Techofes netted a revenue of Rs 9 lakh most of which were collected by the students themselves.
Recently, the event has had to be toned down due to problems citing lack of sponsors with the University having banned selling of aerated beverages, thus taking away a chunk of revenue, nevertheless the 2005 edition was a huge success. In the coming years, it may become Chennai's biggest extravaganza.
