New Teak
How old is new teak as opposed to 'old' teak?
Any links to current teak prices?
- Text now clarified. It refers to the age of the tree, and more importantly, how fast it grew; trees in natural forests grow slowly (due to shade and competition from other trees), and are very old (100-300 years old) by the time they reach merchantable size, whereas trees grown in plantations, with no competition, grow fast, reaching merchantable size while still young (30-50 years). [edit] What is the best distance to plant teak
My wife and I recently purchased about 16 acres of land in Nicaragua with the purpose of planting teak. We have verified the usage of the land by so called 'experts' and by the healthy growth of teak in sorrounding parcels. Nonetheless, nobody can ascertain what is the best distance to plant the teak from another tree. The distances have varied from 2 to 6 meters. Of course, we like to get the most out of our land by planting it to capacity with the best growth potential. The land receives sun without interference; however, irrigation is solely dependent on the rainy season (May to October). Opinions? Evictorp 18:45, 10 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Distance Between Teak Trees
I have had a bad growth with 2 metrs distance as the teak has taken very long to grow . But my experience with an approx 3 meters distance is good . My plantations are now 21 years old and 18 years old respectively . Thinning is must after 10 years and reduce the plant population gradually so that crown competition is reduced. [edit] Which teak is endangered
The main article states: Tectona hamiltoniana (Dahat Teak) is a local endemic species confined to Burma, where it is endangered
But according to IUCN Red List, seaching for teak, only Philippine Teak is endangered http://www.iucnredlist.org/search/details.php/32123/summ
Anyone have reference to endangered rating for Dahat Teak? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.212.132.34 (talk) 15:21, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
