the word caddy is derived from the Malay word “KATE” which means a weight equivalent to 1 and 1/15 of a pound. As tea was always sold by the ‘Kate’, the name caddy became associated to the container in which the tea was held. http://www.seedsofknowledge.com/tea4.html
