[edit] NT, XP history

Hi Tdscanunk. In Operating_system, the reference to "2001" referred to the date that NT was used to become the basis for MS's desktop OS (Win2000 was based on NT3), not to the date of introduction of NT, which of course was earlier. So yes the author meant NT, not XP. Incidentally, XP is also a descendant of NT. The first "Windows", most popularly Win3.11, were GUI applications on the DOS operating system (which MS developed through MSDOS 6 and IBM through PCDOS 7). Win95 and 98 were hybrid systems but Win2000 and later were based on NT, using DOS as a command interpreter, as NT does, instead of as a OS. Pete St.John 15:50, 1 August 2007 (UTC)
