Re: Vandal fighting question

Hey there. Yeah it certainly isn't very clearly defined anywhere when to use test warnings and when to use vandalism warnings. Normally, as a rule of thumb, I assume most people are just making test edits in the first instance and so usually start with a {{uw-test1}} warning in most circumstances. There are obviously exceptions where an edit is obviously vandalism though. After that I usually either give a {{uw-test3}} warning if they persist in adding random letters / nonsense or a {{uw-vandalism3}} warning if they seem to be more malicious. Then finally I give a {{uw-vandalism4}} warning if they still persist, before blocking / reporting to WP:AIV. Of course, that's just my personal way of doing things. There's no defined right way, but I like to assume that a person is just making a test if it's their first misdemeanor. In terms of deletions and blankings, I usually use the {{uw-delete1}} series of warnings. Hope that helps somewhat! Regards. Will (aka Wimt) 23:45, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, unfortunately some people do give out blatant vandalism warnings unnecessarily harshly. Personally, I only really use them in the case of something really blatant like very offensive vandalism to someone's userpage. Glad the reply helped. :-) Will (aka Wimt) 00:05, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

Welcome to WikiProject Trains

Hello and welcome to the Trains WikiProject! Thank you for adding your name to our project membership list. Our goal is to build the most comprehensive and detailed guide to rail transport on Wikipedia. As a project member, you may add the project membership userbox to your user page if you wish.

If you haven't done so already, please add our main project page to your watchlist and take some time to review the Trains project manual of style where we have collected guidelines and suggestions on notability and style for a consistent representation of rail transport related material. If you're curious about where to start, we've gathered a few suggestions in the Trains project to do list. If you'd like to specialize in a particular area of study within rail transport, take a look at the current Trains project task forces.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask on the project talk page or on my talk page. Again, welcome and happy editing! Slambo (Speak) 20:03, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

Adminship nomination

Thanks a lot for your kind words and offer to nominate me. It sounds interesting but I haven't thought about adminship before and have better time next week. Can I get back to you? PrimeHunter 23:39, 4 August 2007 (UTC)

Thanks again for your offer but I have decided to decline. I don't really need admin tools for the editing I like doing. PrimeHunter 23:31, 12 August 2007 (UTC)

The Wikipedia:Counter-Vandalism Unit project is under consideration to be moved to {{inactive}} and/or {{historical}} status. Another proposal is to delete or redirect the project. You have been identified as a project member and your input as to this matter would be welcomed at WT:CVU#Inactive.3F and at the deletion debate. Thank you! Blu Cantrell(Birth Date)

i'm fed up typing the same thing over and over would you just change it, it's getting frustrating and annoying.

you clearly know less about her than i do and you already use MY site as a source, i don't understand your logic.

here is what i said earlier(yes i saved it because i knew you what your like and would delete it)

Blu Cantrell's birthday is wrong for about the one-hundredth time! she was born on: 16th of March, 1976 which makes her a Pisces and the age of 31.

On Blus OFFICIAL MYSPACE (not the one you can find on google btw..its fake) she has age down as 91..wonder why (let me tell you, since i have no doubt you can't work it out) because the month and the day are correct but she changed the year.

also since 2004 agencys like wireimage and filmmagic have photoed her at her bithday party(s) oh and guess what it was in March.

wiki you need to get your act together..getting simple facts wrong like an artists birthday wrong then ignoring it when a fan tells you, is why you will never be a creditable source.

oh and to further my proof (since i have no doubt you will choose to ignore this as well) here is a cap from Blu's OFFICIAL MYSPACE

get your act together wiki.

- now please give me reason to why (this is months now) you STILL refuse to change her birth-date.

Thanks for contacting me. The reason why I reverted your edit was because you inserted comments into the article which should have been placed on the article's talk page. If you disagree with something in the article and have a source for what you wrote, please feel free to write it in without any personal comments or violating one of Wikipedia's policies.Tbo 157talk 18:37, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

yes thats why the date was changed before until someone (unknown to me, perhaps it was you) decided to change it back to the wrong one. why? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 86.145.42.98 (talkcontribs) 18:42, 11 August 2007 (UTC).

I've never touched the article before. Usually if someone disagrees with something you have written in an article and reverts you edit, it is a good idea to start a discussion on the talk page. If your information is correct, it is likely that there would be a general consensus to insert the information into the article. Tbo 157talk 18:46, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

Whitmorewolveyr cut and paste...

No problem. Both Dweller and I were assuming good faith but it turned around and bit us so that's that. I removed the problematic pages he created so no real harm done. Thanks for being alert to the problem! The Rambling Man 10:30, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

Akai's page article almost all gone by user GlassFET

User:GlassFET feels that the Akai article is not well referenced and therefore, almost everything must go. It all started when he deleted a reference to a manual that gives reference to an Akai machine listed there and he converted it into a "footnote". As a contributor, I didn't object. I asked him why though, he said, because the manual is copyrighted, so I didn't object to that answer but felt a "footnote" was probably not needed. Then he erased the word "broke ground" and re-arranged the paragraph (See: [1] and his edits [2]) from the unit's paragraph because there was no reference that can verify that it did "break ground" as a porta studio of its time (1985). So, I found one ref, he dismissed as "not notable" because the link was to a studio page. Then, he told me that I wrote the paragraph on that unit wrong. Which is untrue. I wrote it factual and with the right machine specs. He decided at that point that rather than look for better sources for references, the article should be drastically trim down for lack of references. I think this user wants to meet Wikipedia standards, but also wants to incite me into to losing my civility and to disrupt the normal development of the Akai article. Can you help by making any comments? Thanks. 19:47, 22 August 2007 (UTC)

Your RFA

Withdrawing was probably a good idea. Keep at it, you will probably be ready eventually --lucid 22:18, 25 August 2007 (UTC)

Sorry 'bout the failed RFA chum. --Tλε Rαnδom Eδιτor (tαlk) 23:10, 25 August 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, it was really just a bit too soon to put one up, that's all. After a few months, providing you've participated actively in Wikipedia space, and done some good article work coupled with a good edit count, you should be ready to put together a good RfA and have another go, which should be much more successful. Have you considered getting an admin coach? Lradrama 09:35, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

My username

I don't believe that any experienced editor would genuinely be confused by this username, and I think that it is helpful in explaining my intentions. Therefore I don't intend to change it at present. Sockpuppet, permitted by WP:SOCK 19:08, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

Portal:London Transport/Vote‎

I've added an article & a couple of images (all three of which will probably fail as they're not about steam locos/leafy stations/shiny new tube trains, but hey-ho) to get the ball rolling. For info, the template currently provided for adding images doesn't work & if used just spews out wiki-gibberish so I've nominated as plain text; I'd suggest just using a plain-text template anyway, as Portal:London/Pictures/Vote uses, as I don't see any particular reason for it to be in a wikitable & it just confuses people who aren't familiar with formatting code iridescent (talk to me!) 15:12, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

see User:Tbo 157/Admin coaching

which has been set up. You have some homework already. :) Probably a good idea to watchlist it. Can you update the matrix entries for John and I to show you're being coached by us, please? ++Lar: t/c 01:22, 28 August 2007 (UTC)
