Tazhamon Madom

Tazhamon Madom is a Namboothiri family which has the hereditary rights as "Thantri" (Vedic High Priest) of the Ayyappa temple at Sabarimala, Kerala. The members of the family have the title "Kantaru".

The Thantri instructs the "Mel Shanti" (Head Priest who is elected every year from other Namboothiri brahmin families), on the special rituals and thantrams of the Sabarimala temple and recites to him the "Moola Mantra". The Padi Pooja, Udayasthamana Pooja and Kalasa Poojas cannot be conducted unless the Thantri is present during the ceremony.
