[edit] origin of the phrase "taxi squad"

I believe that the term "taxi squad" originated with the Cleveland Browns football team of the All-American Football Conference. The owner of the Browns, Arthur McBride, made his money in the taxi business, and Coach Paul Brown had a number of potential substitute players employed by the taxi company. When needed, they would be called up from the "taxi squad." "Taxi squads" are now referred to as "practice squads" on the NFL —Preceding unsigned comment added by Newguy55 (talk • contribs) 18:01, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
