Taverner John Miller (1804-1867) was MP for Malden from 1852 until 1953 and for Colchester from 1857-1865. He was the owners of a whaling business based at Dorset Wharf on Millbank in London[1]. He married Marian Cheyne, in 1838, a descendent of John Cheyne who founded Chenies Manor House around 1460[2].

He lived at 1 Millbank, London, also known as Dorset Wharf, and owned a Sperm Oil merchants "Messr J T Miller & Son"[1]. The business was continued by his son, George Taverner Miller until December 1905 when the Wharf was purchased for £68,000 by London County Council to extend Victoria Tower Gardens next to the Houses of Parliament[1][2].

He was Church Warden of St Johns Westminster in 1855[1]
Appeared as primary prosecution witness at the trial of a George Fox at Old Bailey where who was convicted for stealing his silk handkerchief and was transported[3]
