The article reads:
Tavistock was formed for the purpose of allowing the Tavistock Country Club the ability to serve alcoholic beverages.
Haddonfield is a dry borough.
But in 1921, Prohibition was in effect, so Tavistock was also dry. I've heard from a Haddonfield Borough councilor that Tavistock's origin stem's from Haddonfield's Blue Laws, which banned (perhaps still do) the playing of golf on Sunday. I have no confirmation, though.
