[edit] Regarding edit in Grand Theft Auto (series)

Hi. Just like to clarify the mention of Mars, Alabama, if you're not aware already (since your last edit summary mentions not finding any instance of the location [1]). The location was mentioned by Pastor Richards during the VCPR radio station in GTA:VC, when he claims he comes from "Mars," where he "founded three colleges." (A VCPR script that verifies this is available here, through GameFAQs).

But I do share your sentiment that the location is just not notable enough to be included because it wasn't prominently featured in any of the games, only mentioned in speech. I was just awaiting a third party to voice their opinions, since my last few reversions were also undone by the same editor. Thanks. ╫ 25 ◀RingADing▶ 08:41, 13 December 2006 (UTC) ╫

[edit] Cornwall

I'm sure Jack McCue is a nice guy, but Wikipedia lists of notability in a city's article are not meant to include any random nice guy that people want to include; to be on there, a person has to meet WP:BIO criteria for inclusion in an encyclopedia. That is, he has to have done something encyclopedically notable; being a high school principal, even one who was really popular with his former students, doesn't meet that requirement. Bearcat 20:07, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

A high school principal simply does not meet Wikipedia's inclusion criteria. WP:BIO most certainly is binding in all but really unusual circumstances; it's left open solely because of the remote possibility that a situation might come along that shows up a flaw in the policy. This is not that situation; the guy simply is not sufficiently notable to be on here. The page does not belong to Cornwall to honour whoever Cornwall sees fit; there has to be a reason why someone in Singapore might need to know about a topic. Bearcat 02:51, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

Entitlement to a place on the list is not determined by local notability. It's determined by national or international notability. It's determined by how many people in Vancouver or Singapore or Bora Bora might have heard of Jack McCue, not by how many people in Cornwall care about him. This is not the Cornwallpedia; it's an international encyclopedia with specific rules about what is and isn't notable enough to be on here. Bearcat 02:57, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

Nice try, but that just ain't the way things work around here. This is not a place where anybody is entitled to add absolutely anything they consider notable. There are objective standards and rules. Bearcat 03:07, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

No, you gave reasons why the rules should be ignored just because you personally want them to be. You didn't give a single valid reason that actually met the rules as they stand. Bearcat 03:11, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

Did you miss the part about the documentability and verifiability of the purported cult following? Because it sure doesn't show up on Google, and "it's true because I say it is" isn't good enough per WP:V. Bearcat 03:17, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

Being able to confirm that he exists isn't the issue. Being able to confirm through independent media sources that he's sufficiently important to be given special mention in an encyclopedia is the issue. Bearcat 03:25, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

The links do not constitute notability; they're press releases. Independent media sources, like newspaper articles (and not from the local Cornwall paper) or books about him are required, not press releases. Bearcat 03:31, 14 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] WP:CVU status

The Wikipedia:Counter-Vandalism Unit project is under consideration to be moved to {{inactive}} and/or {{historical}} status. Another proposal is to delete or redirect the project. You have been identified as a project member and your input as to this matter would be welcomed at WT:CVU#Inactive.3F and at the deletion debate. Thank you!
