[edit] Trivia

At the culmination of the film, when Kinsky makes love to Maddy after finishing his tattoo on her body, she is finally is successful in escaping his captivity, by stabbing him with his tattoo needle.

Of this scene, Dern was asked if he and Adams really made love for the camera. He responded that they did. Asked about this, Adams vehemently denied that it happened and accused Dern of just being egotistical. Asking about her realistic reactions during the scene, she responded, "Haven't you ever heard of 'acting'?!".[citation needed]
