Tasmanian Steamers Pty Ltd.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tasmanian Steamers Pty Ltd. was a company which operated passenger ferries across Bass Strait between 1921 to 1959. It was jointly owned by the Union Steam Ship Company and Huddart Parker which was formed on December 22, 1921.

Their ships had many trials and tribulations over the 38 years of operations, including World War II, when some of their ships had already been through World War I. During this time, one of their ships, the S.S. Taroona was a troop carrier for Australia and also New Zealand for a short time.

The company folded in 1959 when the Australian National Line took over.
