Born in New Jersey, she moved to the Phoenix, Arizona area at age 12. Upon turning 18 and thus being of legal age to work as an adult performer, Thomas worked for Lightspeed Media Corporation doing internet photo shoots and softcore pornography, a total of about 20 appearances. In the late months of 2004, Thomas came to Southern California and made the decision to perform in hardcore pornography as a career choice.^[1] Her first adult DVD since arriving in California was titled 12 on 1 #2 by Lethal Hardcore and included Thomas performing with Penny Flame, Sandra Romain and Melissa Lauren.

In her early career, she was filmed by Meatholes in a controversial scene. She was not prepared for the extremely personal questions and very brutal treatment during the session, including spanking, spitting, and other such things. In one point of the filming, a shoe actually steps onto her vagina and clitoris. Throughout the scene, Thomas is visibly uncomfortable, nervous, and clearly hurt. She later stated on various blogs that she regrets starring in a Meatholes production, and has no plans of doing anything of that sort ever again.^{[citation needed]}

She was nominated for the AVN Award for Best New Starlet Award in 2006. She did win the Dirtiest Girl in Porn Award presented by the Fans of Adult Media and Entertainment (F.A.M.E.) in June 2006.

Thomas has appeared on the Howard Stern and competed in the Pornstar Beauty Pageant competing against Taylor Wane and Carmen Luvana on June 15, 2006.^[2]

Thomas left the industry to study cosmetology, but in May 2007 she announced her return to the adult film industry.^[3] She has since then starred in several different films^{[citation needed]}.

In addition to her cosmetology studies, Thomas has also attended real estate school and has a pharmacy technician's license.^[1]

After gaining some weight in the wake of her short departure from the adult film industry, Taryn has launched a comeback, and is documenting it in her own personal blog. She posts various pictures of her weight loss and updates on her life. She is currently at her "goal weight" and starting to shoot new content.^[4]
