Tanque Verde Falls
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Tanque Verde Falls designates a series of waterfalls in Tanque Verde, Arizona near Tucson, Arizona. The upper part of the falls features an area traditionally reserved for nude bathing.
[edit] Safety
Visitors are advised that the falls are prone to dangerous flash flooding with little warning, as rain falling far upslope of the falls may be quickly channelled into the canyon. This may occur even if it is not raining in the immediate vicinity of the falls. If clouds are observed passing over the falls area, the risk is likely elevated.
Although wading and bathing in the canyon is safe if the water is not ingested, the water which flows through the canyon is not drinkable, due to a high concentration of tannin produced by local plant life and leached from the soil by rainwater. The presence of tannin gives the water a yellow-tan appearance.
