[edit] Character outline

Yamamoto was born in Japan and is 177cm tall, weighing 63kg. He is a Taurus with O bloodtype. His future dream is to become a professional baseball player and he goes to Namimori's batting field everyday. His favourite food is sushi and his favourite drink is milk. His favourite instrument is the taiko, a Japanese drum.

Addressed as 'Yamamoto' by almost everyone in the series, this baseballer-turned-mafia has a warm and friendly personality and is rarely seen not smiling. He is, however, very naive to the point of believing that Reborn's weapons are advanced kid's toys and that the mafia business is one big cops-and-robbers game. Yamamoto is regarded by various Reborn characters, especially Tsuna, as being reliable and almost never fails to deliver. A prominent example is how he won the turnaround match for Tsuna's family in the Varia arc against Superbi Squalo in a sword fight no-one thought he could win.

Yamamoto is the type of character that can make friends with everyone, and if not friendship, at least respect. Characters like Hibari Kyouya has been shown to have interest in Yamamoto's battles and Squalo has also shown interest in his development. However, Yamamoto can become angry when his friends are hurt or injured. He is also willing to sacrifice things important to him to save his friends, shown in the Kokuyo arc.

Despite his easygoing personality, Yamamoto has shown that he has hidden talent as an assassin. In fact, Reborn clearly sees Yamamoto's potential and often mentions to Tsuna that Yamamoto is a natural born killer. His fast reflexes and strong body from sport gives him a natural advantage and he is shown to be able to dodge cannon fire and wayward fireworks. Yamamoto also learns really quick, remembering all 8 forms of the Shigure Souen Style despite only being shown once. He also manages to develop a new form of the style in a life-death situation. In the future arc, Yamamoto also manages to light the flame on his ring on his first try. Of all of Tsuna's family Reborn seems to have a special interest in Yamamoto, helping him train initially, giving him the baseball bat that can turn into a katana, making special notes on his progress and eventually becoming his 'home tutor' in the Future arc.

Yamamoto's portrayal in the story is that of a stereotypical Japanese teenager; his name 'Takeshi', and surname 'Yamamoto' are both common Japanese names, his looks are quite ordinary for a Japanese teenager, he is a big fan of baseball (a popular sport in Japan), his family owns a sushi store and later in the story, he uses a katana (a Japanese sword).

In the future arc, he is shown to have learned everything about the mafia and seems to be okay with it. Though he still acts like he is still clueless most of the time.

[edit] History

Takeshi is a star athlete at his school and believes that is almost everything that defines him. After being convinced otherwise by Tsuna, they become friends.

His family owns a sushi restaurant called "Takesushi", which also happens to be his house.

[edit] Synopsis

[edit] Introduction Arc

Takeshi is the star of the school's baseball team, making it into the regulars even though he is only a first year student. He is generally known as the nice and popular guy. He has a lot of love for the sport, but has been experiencing a bad slump. One day he gets his hopes up after some small talk with Tsuna, but breaks his arm during training. He thinks his career in baseball, the only thing he's good at, would go downhill from there, and plans to end his life by jumping off the school roof. Tsuna saves his life. This is however left out of the anime in which Yamamoto became friends with Tsuna during a volleyball game. After he is 'rescued,' he becomes one of Tsuna's good friends and joins Tsuna on his adventures during this arc.

[edit] Kokuyō Gang Arc

During the Kokuyo Arc, Takeshi is ranked 2nd as Namimori Junior High's strongest student, making him a target of Mukuro's gang. He faces his opponent Ken at the Kokuyo's hideout, a deserted amusement complex. Due to some attacks from wolf corpses Yamamoto falls into the old animal cage which they were standing over and is effectively trapped with Ken. Ken also manages to break his baseball bat from Reborn but while Tsuna and the others were panicking he remained calm. During the fight Reborn notes that Yamamoto is shielding and protecting his body, as if injuring himself would mean a loss. This was because there was an important game in the autumn season coming up. However, when Tsuna is pushed down by Reborn, Yamamoto sacrifices an arm and manages to defeat Ken. It is also at this point that Yamamoto states that ever since he jumped off the roof with Tsuna he no longer sees baseball as more important than his friends. Yamamoto was later badly injured in his fight with Lanchia.

[edit] The Varia Arc

Takeshi is trained by his father in kendo. During his battle, Takeshi fought Superbi Squalo for the right to bear the Ring of Rain. After an extensive, bloody sword fight, Takeshi won out in the end by using his newly created ninth form of the Shigure Souen Style, Mirroring Rain, and became the official successor of the legendary deadly sword style. He was called a natural born assassin. During Tsuna's fight with Xanxus, he remained immobilized at the flooded field he had battled Squalo at, until being cured of the Death-Hitter poison by Hibari. Meeting up with Gokudera, the two then proceeded to the gymnasium to rescue Chrome. The second they entered the field however, they had been trapped into Marmon's illusion, after Belphegor rescued him. They were required to surrender the rings, in exchange for Chrome's life. Had they not complied, they threatened to skin Chrome alive. Yamamoto devised a cunning plan and used the Shigure Souen Style (3rd Style: Last Minute rain where he dropped his sword and kicked it at the others) to turn the tables on the two. However they were ultimately saved by Ryohei, who broke the gym and the illusion.

[edit] Future Arc

Future Takeshi
Future Takeshi

Nine years and ten months into the future, Takeshi is no longer the oblivious person he used to be. He is now an official subordinate of the Vongola Family and has also advanced his sword skills to the point that he can somehow summon rain when he uses one of the special boxes, even when lacking the Vongola ring. He wears typical mafia clothing (a black suit), and also has a scar on his chin. He makes his first appearance when he arrives to lead Lal Mirch and the accompanying Tsuna and Gokudera to Vongola's secret hideout. As he tells Tsuna about the war, we learn that his father has been killed. His future self was replaced by the younger Takeshi at a crucial moment in battle after someone fired the Ten-Year Bazooka at him in the past.

In the Future, the young Takeshi protects Haru and Lambo from a blast during during a fight with two mafiosi of the Millefiore Family. After they return to the base, he is very resolute about changing the future, although it appears that he has no idea what's really going on. At the beginning of Lal's training, although it took Hayato several tries to light the ring on fire, Takeshi drew out the ring's power in an instant, showing his determination, however his flame was only strong enough to open one of his boxes. He fought a losing battle against Gamma with Hayato when they were searching for the future Hibari, during which he had a fight with Hayato. Takeshi revealed he had a lot of insight despite thinking that the mafia is a game, and when Hayato told Takeshi to stay out of the fight he angrily retorted that if he was truly Tsuna's right hand man, he would unite the Guardians instead of separating them. Both of them worked together but were defeated badly in the end. They were saved by Hibari, and now Takeshi is beginning new intensive training with Reborn as his home tutor.

Yamamoto and Reborn train in a traditional Japanese styled room. They have bullet dodging exercises with Reborn shooting paintballs that contain glow-in-the-dark paint and Yamamoto blocking with his sword. Yamamoto also has to run ridiculously long marathons with his swallow to train endurance. Recently, the two have also been shown in all out battles. Reborn has promised that he will reveal his secrets as an Acrobaleno if Yamamoto's training is fruitful.

Yamamoto's training reached a point where Reborn cannot help him anymore as he is a gunman, not a swordsman. Therefore he shows Yamamoto a video that Squalo has given him roughly titled 'The Road to becoming the Swords Emperor'. It has recorded the 100 battles Squalo won for him to be declared the new Swords Emperor. Reborn also reveals that in the current timeline(the future)Yamomoto was aiming to enter the major league before he returned fulltime to Tsuna and the Vongola. Squalo sent him the videos one at a time in order to both boast and draw him back to the path of the sword. This video gives Yamamoto new motivation and after three days, he is able to use his newly created Shigure Souen Style form to pierce Reborn's hat. Reborn declares his training complete. Following his training, Reborn tells Yamamoto about the secret of the Arcobaleno, but asks him not to tell anyone else until after their attack on the Millefiore base.

After infiltrating the Millefiore base Yamamoto shows improved reaction time, able to make split second decisions to aid the team. After subsequent fights that split the group so that he was with Gokudera and Ryohei, he was separated from the two when Shuuichi transformed the base.

[edit] Relationships

Takeshi is a very warm and accepting person, and as such, he makes friends very easily and is respected by nearly everyone. He likes almost everybody in the series.

[edit] Tsuna

Being the person that saved him from suicide, Yamamoto thinks Tsuna is amazing, and treats him like a very close friend. Although he is rather naive towards what is really happening during the series, Takeshi is very devoted and loyal to Tsuna and puts fighting for him and protecting him above everything else.

[edit] Gokudera

Takeshi and Gokudera are friends, but have somewhat of a one-sided rivalry going. Gokudera believes Takeshi is trying to become Tsuna's right hand man, when in reality, he is simply being his clueless self and enjoys their competitions. They therefore push each other to do their best and become stronger because of each other.

In the future, the present Takeshi scolds Gokudera for his coldness towards him. He says that he has no right to be Tsuna's right hand man right now, as the right hand man's job is to gather and unite the guardians- not turn away from them. He goes back to being happy once Gokudera chooses to accept him.

[edit] Reborn

The person who 'found' Yamamoto and consequently made him join Vongola. He has very high expectations of Yamamoto's talents and eventually becomes his tutor in the Future Arc. Reborn says that Yamamoto is a natural born killer. Yamamoto, on the other hand, thinks that Reborn is an infant who likes to play with very advanced toys (guns, bombs). Recently after starting to train with Reborn he has acknowledged him to be powerful and is interested in hearing Reborn's secrets which he promised to reveal after their training. Reborn seems to like sitting on Yamamoto's shoulder.

[edit] Squalo

Squalo is the first opponent Yamamoto faced who uses a sword. After a humiliating defeat at Squalo's hands Yamamoto has trained extremely hard learning the Shigure Souen Style in hopes of beating Squalo. Squalo can be seen as the oil that strengthened Yamamoto's desire to become stronger and his rival at swordsmanship. After defeating Squalo in the Rain battle Squalo says that Yamamoto has what it takes to become a great swordsman, acknowledging him. He, like Reborn, also has high hopes for Yamamoto. In the Future Arc, Squalo sends Reborn and Yamamoto a video of the 100 battles he won in order to become the Sword Emperor, helping Yamamoto and refiring his determination. In the Future Arc, it is also mentioned that Vongola has two swords masters; one of which is Yamamoto, the other Squalo.

[edit] Mukuro and Hibari

In spite of their past encounters, Yamamoto seems to consider both Mukuro and Hibari as friends. This is shown when Reborn asked Yamamoto if he liked the mafia.

[edit] Abilities

Takeshi uses a bat that Reborn gives him. The bat turns into a katana when swung faster than 300km/h, though he initially did not have much skill in using it. The bat also contains a telescope. Reborn also gives him Micro Hammers. These weapons are spiked baseballs that explode on contact.

In the future, Takeshi shows a great level of mastery with the sword and the power of the Vongola rings. Even though the main rings were destroyed, he was still able to use the special boxes and their unique powers. When his past self arrives he starts using a box that releases a swallow covered in dying will flame. The swallow is capable of making heavy rain and attacking opponents.

[edit] Shigure Souen Style

After coming up short in his first fight against Squalo, and then being told that he would just get in the way by Reborn, he asked his father for kendo lessons. What he did not know was that his father is an incredibly skilled swordsman who uses his sword to kill. His father specializes in the Shigure Souen Style (時雨蒼燕流?). After completing his kendo training, his father gave him a shinai that could transform into a katana only when wielded by the Shigure Souen Style. It has a special name, the Shigure Kintoki (時雨金時?).

The Shigure Souen Style is a notoriously deadly sword style that is only passed down to worthy successors. Each 'form' of the style is only shown once to the student - if the student is worthy to succeed, he only needs to see it once to remember how to use it from then on. It originally only had one form that was passed down through generations of successors with each successor creating and adding their own forms resulting in many branches of Shigure Souen Style. However, as new forms were created the weaker branches deteriorate and others disappear as there is no worthy successor. Hence this style can be called as the perfect, flawless style.

The Shigure Souen Style taught to Yamamoto consist of 8 forms; four defensive, four offensive. Coincidentally, the Shigure Souen Style's eight forms all have rain in their names, further establishing Yamamoto's right as the holder of the Ring of Rain.

Yamamoto has further created at least two new forms, forms 9 and 10, both offensive.

[edit] Forms

  1. 時雨 (Shigure) - Offensive
  2. Surging Rain 逆巻く雨 (Sakamaku Ame) - Defensive. Used in the fight against Squalo. Yamamoto lifts waves of water around him then ducks, putting his sword protectively in front.
  3. Last Minute Rain 遣らずの雨 (Yarazu no Ame) - Offensive. Used by Yamamoto to save Chrome in the Sky fight. Yamamoto drops the katana kicking it with his foot to send it flying in a stab.
  4. Unknown, deducted to be defensive.
  5. Early Summer Rain 五月雨 (Samidare) - Offensive. Shown in the fight against Squalo. Yamamoto slashes diagonally but in midway he drops the sword, switching hands, before finishing the attack. Able to put off the timing in his opponent.
  6. Unknown, deducted to be defensive.
  7. Spraying Rain 繁吹き雨 (Shibuki Ame) - Defensive. Used in the Rain fight. Yamamoto holds the sword backwards and spins to create a whirlwind-like shield.
  8. Pouring Rain 篠突く雨 (Shinotsuku Ame) - Offensive. Created by Yamamoto's father when saving a friend. Uses the blade of the sword to cut around the bearer.
  9. Duplicate Rain うつし雨 (Utsushi Ame) - Offensive. Created by Yamamoto during his fight with Squalo and the move that defeated him. Yamamoto makes a tidal wave with his sword then defends and when his opponent attacks his reflection from behind he attacks from the front.
  10. Scontro di Rodine (Clash of the Swallow) - Offensive. Created by Yamamoto in the Future Arc while training with Reborn. Seems to be a tidal wave of water that surrounds him while he charges, led by the swallow from his box.
